Black Rocks Sunset, 18X6 transparent watercolor on 300 pound Canson cold press
Jutting out into Lake Superior, Presque Isle’s Black Rocks are a great spot to watch the sunset and the nearby parking area is known as sunset point. Presque Isle is located in Marquette, Michigan which is known as the “Jewel of the North” and where I have resided the longest. Like many people, I have a lot of fond memories associated with this incredibly beautiful place. This painting is based on photos I took about 10 years ago when my mother was recovering from bypass surgery.
I wasn’t going to sell this piece because their are some areas in the water of this painting where tape has removed some of the papers’ surface, revealing the white paper. It can’t be fixed, so I just posted this on my Facebook site. However, I got a lot of positive feedback and a few inquiries on this piece so I decided to sell it . The white spots don’t really detract from the effect I was going for so I decided to put it up for sale at a lower price I normally would list for a painting this size.
