9X12 plein air watercolor on Arches 120 pound cold press paper
was painted while parked beside the Groesbeck Golf Course in Lansing, Michigan. I lived in Lansing for two years and found it difficult at first to paint there as it was the largest city I have ever lived in. Eventually though through a change in perspective and some “fake it til you make it” philosophy I was able to see abundant nature even in a state capital.
While putting in the dark trunk pigment, the paint ran where I wanted white paper to represent snow. Rather than try to clean it up, I directed the flow by tilting the paper. The results are perhaps the best part of the painting.
